We propose to follow up a promising exoplanetary candidate by obtaining high precision Doppler radial velocity measurements using the HRS instrument at Hobby-Eberly telescope (HET). The proposed candidate star has a magnitude of V=8.1 and shows significant radial velocity variability which is best fit by a keplerian orbit of P=4.85 days. Photometric observations show variability at a period of 12.3 +/- 0.3 days which we interpret as the rotational period of the star. Our interpretation of this object is that it is an active K dwarf with a "hot jupiter" planet that has an orbital period of 4.85 days. Radial velocities for this candidate were obtained with the visitor instrument ET used with the KPNO 0.9m coude and the KPNO 2.1m telescopes. Observations were obtained in January, March and May 2005 at a photon noise limited velocity precision of σ=10-30 ms^-1. Time for the HET is requested because the larger aperture of the HET will allow radial velocity measurements at a precision of σ=3-5 ms^-1 and significantly constrain the orbital parameters of this planet, thereby confirming the detection and allowing a search for transits. A confirmation of the detection will also be an important step for the development of instruments like ET. If confirmed this will be the first planet discovered using a publicly available telescope.
