Anelastic fluid equations are used to find solutions which help in understanding the role the large density variation present in the solar convection zone plays in the maintenance of solar differential rotation via the transpot of angular momentum by global scale convection. The equations are derived by a formal expansion in powers of a small parameter which is a measure of the departure of the fluid from an adiabatic atmosphere or, equivalently, the Mach number. As a result, acoustic waves are filtered out.
