We have proposed a phenomenological Ginzburg-Landau (GL) free energy functional with competing order parameters for a two component polarized Fermi gas. This free energy reproduces the phase diagram of two component polarized Fermi gas recently reported by Ketterle et al. This free energy also reproduces the phase diagram of a superconducting system where a uniform magnetic field (generated by magnetic impurities) is acting only on the conduction electron spins, as this system is essentially same as the former and thereby addressing the instability issue of the Sarma phase. The proposed free energy functional correctly predicts the order of the normal-superconductor phase transition and the existence of a tricritical point(TP) as obtained experimentally. Most importantly our model predicts a different divergence of the specific heat near TP when compared to other models.
