We address the issue of combining the observed CMB anisotropics with galaxy redshift surveys in order to measure cosmological parameters with the least error. The combination of datasets has been exploited to resolve parameters that would otherwise be degenerate or difficult to determine by the CMB alone. We discuss how measurements of a given parameter by means of several datasets, CMB and LSS, should be optimised, via a maximum likelihood analysis on a sound basis. This results in a measurement of Ωm and h. This contribution is only meant to motivate a parallel paper that sets out the formalism in detail.
