We describe an illustrative cavity model with a radially narrow acoustic source sphere inside the convection zone for stellar p-modes. The stellar transition region acts as an outer reflection boundary with partial leakage. Based on analytical solutions, we discuss several qualitative line features of stellar p-modes. This model implies that both traveling and standing acoustic waves could coexist in the stellar photosphere and chromosphere with perturbation frequency ν higher than the acoustic cutoff frequency ν_c_. Furthermore, the source-cavity interference could lead to the beating effect in stellar p-mode power peaks in a wider frequency range.
