Examination of Cluster magnetic field measurements in the plasma sheet has provie many clear examples of magnetic flux ropes. Here we present detailed three-dimensional modeling and analysis of such a flux rope embedded in a high-speed earthward bursty bulk flow on August 22, 2001. This event is remarkable in that the trajectories of the Cluster spacecraft straddled the central axis of the rope and enabled us to use the curlometer technique to derive electric current. This was possible because the spacecraft separations were ~ 2000 km while the diameter of the flux rope was ~ 8000 km. Our results indicate that this flux rope was well modeled as a quasi-cylindrical force-free flux rope with JxB being very small in the central regions and larger in the outer layers. The implications of these observations for flux rope formation and the nature of the reconnection process in the near-tail will be discussed.
