Cassini target launch date is in May 1994 using the Space Shuttle/Centaur G Prime launch vehicle. The combined Orbiter and Probe Spacecraft is delivered to the Saturn system via a delta-VEGA trajectory, which requires a flight time of about 7.7 years. Opportunities for asteroid flybys will occur as the Spacecraft traverses the asteroid belt, which happens twice during the interplanetary cruise to Saturn. Arrival at Saturn is predicted for January 2002, when the Orbiter and Probe combination will be placed into an initial three-month orbit. Near the end of this first orbit, the Orbiter targets the Probe for separation and delivery to Titan.
