The CIRS observation sequences of Titan include high-resolution (0.5 cm-1) limb spectra in the far-IR (10-600 cm-1) at two tangent altitudes (125 km and 225 km). The main goals are to obtain coarse vertical resolution on atmospheric gases not observable in the mid-infrared, in particular CO and H2O, and to search for new molecules. Due to the need to achieve vertical resolution in spite of the large FOV (3.9 mrad), the spectra are acquired at ranges of 25000 to 40000 km, and a typical sequence corresponds to only 40 spectra at each tangent altitude. While it is necessary to average many spectra to get sufficient S/N, the present CIRS database, containing roughly 500 spectra at each of the two altitudes, is now adequate. Spectral signatures of CH4, HCN, CO, H2O and some isotopes (HC15N and probably 13CO) are present. We will present an analysis of these data, focussing on (i) temperature retrievals from CH4 rotational lines (ii) verifying the CO vertical profile (iii) remeasuring isotopic ratios. A companion paper (Bjoraker et al.) will describe the H2O horizontal and vertical distribution.
