This Letter presents a more general formalism to derive a formula for the brightness temperature and flux density of an astrophysical saturated maser, showing that those predicted by the traditional theory are smaller, and also predicts that the two observable physical quantities increase with increasing elastic collision rate. This may help explain some important observed astrophysical maser phenomena.
