Seven suevite samples from locations around the Nördlinger Ries crater have been dated by the potassium-argon-method. Glass was separated from the suevite and used for the dating. The dates were all the same within the experimental error and gave an average value 14,8± 0,7 my . Six Czechoslovakian tektites were also dated and gave an age of 14,7 ± 0,7 my . It is suggested that the tektites might have originated by the explosion that produced the Ries Kessel.
