Earth Rotation: Earth Core, Earth Rotation: Earth Mantle
Scientific paper
The magnetic field of the Earth is determined by currents in its liquid core. The joint precession of the core and mantle, acted upon by tidal and cohesive forces, is considered and the angle between their axes of rotation (it is of the order of 10-6rad) is found. With the angle taken into account the velocity field in the outer core is derived, and it is shown that the main rotation of the currents occurs in the boundary layer.
