We study the stability of neutron and boson stars by applying the method of the catastrophe theory to solitons. We predict a new type of stars: the oscillating stars. The models considered describe the different astrophysical objects such as white dwarfs, neutron and boson stars. The catastrophe theory gives a satisfactory description of the star stability.
