A fraction of less than 10 microns can form through the breakup (from impacts) of lunar rocks; it can also result from material produced through breakup in another area which is transported over the lunar surface. Another possibility is condensed matter formed from the melting (from impact), evaporation, and condensation of lunar matter. Methods that have been developed for separating fine fractions are described, and results are presented from an analysis of the morphology and chemical composition of individual particles.
