In the period 1959-1973, three anomalous increases of intensity of cosmic rays with energies exceeding 1 GeV have been found which are not directly associated with the generation of relativistic particles on the sun: the anomalous increases of July 17, 1959, November 12, 1960 and August 4, 1972. It is suggested that these anomalous bursts of intensity are caused by the generation of particles in the interplanetary medium. Consideration is given to the mechanism of particle acceleration between convergent shock waves in the interplanetary medium; the rigidity of the cosmic ray energy spectrum and its temporal shift into the range of relativistic energies is studied.
