We suggested recently a strong chaos criterion based on an adimensional indicator of chaoticity, by definition invariant under time reparametrization. Bound N-body gravitational systems always satisfy this criterion, so supporting the assumption of an increasingly uniform spreading of orbits over the constant energy surface, i.e., the asymptotic evolution towards a suitably generalized microcanonical distribution. In the course, we outline some among the well known obstacles thought to prevent a rigorous Statistical treatment of gravitationally interacting N-body systems and sketch how to overcome them.
