The purpose of this proposal Is to determine whether any of the hot DB white dwarfs In the Palomar-Green sample have effective temperatures in the 30,000 - 40,000 K range. Currently, there are no stars established in this temperature Interval, though some 50 DB white dwarfs are catalogued, and some 14 hotter DO white dwarfs with Teff > 45,000 K are known. It is noteworthy that the pulsating DB star GD358 has the bluest colors of the DB stars observed with IUE and Teff ~30,000 K; among our proposed targets not yet observed with IUE is a second recently discovered pulsating DB star PG1654+160.
