We address how the finite frequency real conductivity $\sigma(\omega)$ in the underdoped cuprates is affected by pseudogap effects, presuming that the pseudogap is associated with non-condensed pairs that arise from stronger-than-BCS attraction. This necessarily leads to both a Drude and a mid infrared (MIR) peak with the latter associated with the energy needed to break pairs. The effects on $\sigma(\omega)$ due to superconducting coherence are demonstrated. The f-sum rule is analytically shown to hold and the implied effects of the pseudogap appear generally consistent with experiment.
