Methanol masers at 6.7-GHz are bright and unambiguous tracers of massive star-forming regions in our Galaxy. That they have not been detected outside the Milky Way + LMC is purely down to a lack of sufficiently sensitive observations. Locating the sites of ongoing massive star-formation in nearby galaxies would give us evidence as to the extent of spiral wave triggering in spiral galaxies, large-scale stellar feedback (e.g. wind-driven supershells), as well as the current star-formation rate in those galaxies. We propose observations of 2 nearby galaxies with on-going star-formation and high metallicities, to search for galactic-strength methanol masers using the 7-beam methanol receiver on the Parkes Telescope.
