The physical mechanisms involved in the generation of geomagnetic pulsations and MHD waves are discussed. Consideration is given to the interaction of the solar wind with the magnetosphere; the relationship between Pc3 micropulsations adn the solar wind plasma; and some possible reasons for the differences observed in geomagnetic pulsations at the North and South poles. The patterns of MHD waves in the magnetospheres of Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury are also discussed on the basis of satellite observations. The possibility of using geomagnetic pulsations for induction sounding of the earth core is considered.
