The structure of the latitudinal profile of auroral electron precipitation is examined, accounting for the finite longitudinal conductivity of the magnetic field lines and the viscosity of the magnetosphere by solving equations of magnetospheric-ionospheric interactions in linear and nonlinear cases. Results from ground-based and satellite measurements of electron precipitation in the auroral zone and their relation to the parameters and disturbances to the outer magnetosphere are discussed.
