We discuss our U, B, V, I survey of the central 8(deg) x 8(deg) of the
Large Magellanic Cloud and 3.5(deg) x 4.5(deg) of the Small Magellanic
Cloud. In particular we describe our scientific objectives, the use of a
new drift-scanning camera, the parameters of the survey, and highlight
our reduction and analysis of the data from our first observing season.
