Orbital elements for the primary component of HD 189178(B5) are presented for the first time, although the star has been known for 70 years to he a binary. Velocities derived from all lines visible in the spectrum lead to values for the elements P = 70d.22, T = JD2439762.1, ω = 302° e = 0.34, V0 - 20.1 km s-1, K1 = 41.4 km s-1, and f(m) = 0.43. If the hydrogen-line velocities were omitted from the means, however, e would he smaller, K1 larger, and V0 slightly more negative. Reports of the visibility of the secondary spectrum are assessed and variations in the strengths of the hydrogen lines are shown to exist. It is suggested that the system may he eclipsing.
