Satellite bremsstrahlung X-ray and ground-based riometer and magnetometer observational data on electron precipitation within the southern polar cap region of the ionosphere are reported. The satellite was the P78-1, traveling a polar 600 km circular orbit and carrying a proportional counter. Three component magnetic field and cosmic background radio noise were measured from the ground during the June 1978 campaign, which detected a 10 sec spike event. The spike and precipitation regions were moving southward, with the spike area being at least 25 x 100 km. Energies higher than 40 keV accompanied the spike, which was associated with a 2 x 10 to the 23rd/sec precipitation rate an a flux of 1 billion/sq cm/sec per sr.
