An analysis is presented of the dependence of the position of the high-latitude maximum of Pc3 (i.e., the outer resonant field line corresponding to this maximum) on the pulsation period for varying conditions of magnetic disturbance. The analysis is based on data from the high-latitude expedition Siberia-MIM-79 collected from January 15 to March 31, 1979. The basic characteristics of the Pc3 maximum are presented, and a theoretical model for interpreting these characteristics is developed. Conditions under which the field line resonance is disrupted and the high-latitude maximum vanishes are investigated.
