The instrument focus is checked in two ways: {1} taking a series of images with small dithering offsets {to effectively improve the spatial resolution, while rejecting cosmic rays and hot pixels}. These images will be obtained through the [OII] filter to provide as monochromatic an image as possible. {2} stepping a star {in sub-pixel steps} across a narrow echelle slit {e.g., the 0.1x0.09 slit}, using the CCD. These observations may start after the successful completion of 8503 {STIS03}, STIS to FGS Alignment.
