The approximate expression presently obtained for the gyrosynchrotron emissivity of relativistic electrons, averaged over their pitch angle distributions, generalizes existing results due to Petrosian (1981). In the specific case of anisotropic distributions, the expression yields results that are significantly better than those of previously published treatments. Results are found to be in good agreement with those of numerical calculations for examples of distributions involving moderate and strong anisotropy, and they correctly predict both the overall form of the radiation pattern and the effect of the anisotropy on the polarization of the emission.
