Bipolar Outflows: Star Formation, Protostars: Streamers
Scientific paper
The author suggests that some of the jets and flows in the interstellar gas around the new-born stars are likely to be gravo-magnetodynamic phenomena inherent to the gravitational contraction of the central object from the background medium having a large scale magnetic field. The author takes up the smaller-scale optical jets from the forming stars as other examples of the flows driven by a related (but different) mechanism, and proposes that the Herbig-Haro objects in the vicinity of the protostars are the cloud bombarded by the invisible extension of the optical jets guided along the squeezed-large scale magnetic field. He gives arguments that the larger scale streamer structures extending out from the massive cloud of active star-formation may also be other examples of such gravo-magnetodynamic processes in which the action of the magnetic field produces an elongated structure by the sweeping magnetic pinch effect, and that the same time, plays a role in the formation of the central condensation by extracting angular momentum from it. Discussions are given about the observational evidence supporting these interpretations.
