Scientific paper

Large scale studies of the kinematics and morphology of molecular clouds suggest that the heating produced by illumination from embedded and external stars, expansion of superbubbles, magnetic fields and the impact of winds play important roles in producing the structure and velocity field. The author reviews methods for the determination of the physical parameters of molecular clouds, illustrating the discussion with recent pictures based on the largest available mm-wave spectral line bases.
