The origin of cloud structure is a central issue in star formation physics because of the intimate association of young stellar objects with cores. A second major aspect of cloud physics is the apparently fundamental role of dynamically significant magnetic fields. The authors show that in addition to the importance of thermal pressure and ordered large scale magnetic field, structure formation depends also upon the character of the spectrum of finite amplitude waves that stir the cloud. Finite amplitude Alfvén waves not only provide support, but can also actually trigger density fluctuations which can grow up into observed cloud structure. The relevant observations of structure in the density, velocity, and magnetic fields of clouds are reviewed.
