The inductive exchange of carriers between closed Fermi surface sections
subject to Landau quantization and open Fermi surface sections subject to
charge-density wave (or spin-density wave) formation is shown to give rise to
persistent currents. This mechanism may explain recent experimental data in
certain organic conductors in high magnetic fields.
