Preliminary results of analyses of Prognoz observations of low-frequency (700, 350, 200, 100 kHz) Type II radio bursts generated by shock waves from large chromospheric flares in May and August, 1972 are reported. Data were analyzed using four different models of radiation generation, with generation before and after the shock wave considered. The velocity of the shock waves, kinetic temperatures of the heated gas, brightness temperatures of the radio emission, and parameters of the region of plasma turbulence are determined. A qualitative correlation between the brightness and kinetic temperatures shows that the degree of excitation of the plasma turbulence is characterized by the shock wave intensity. The ratio of the energy density of plasma waves to their heat energy is between five times ten to the minus seventh and 1.2 times ten to the minus sixth; and varies only slightly in the course of propagation.
