The directivity of X-ray radiation from solar flares was investigated using data from Prognoz and Explorer observations obtained from 1970 to 1973. It was found that the relative frequency of X-ray flares at the 2 sigma level had a tendency to increase at high solar longitudes; this tendency is more marked in the east than in the west. A similar trend was noted in the distribution of mean intensity with respect to solar longitude. These results are not inconsistent with the continuous injection model (Elwert and Haug, 1970) and indicate that formation of oriented electron beams occurs during solar flares. The observed east-west asymmetry also indicates that the magnetic field determining the motion of electrons in solar flares has a mean eastward deviation from the vertical of 30 to 50 deg.
