The moments of revolution of the magnetic field of the earth are shown to be distributed in accordance with a random (Poissonian) law. The statistic analysis has been carried out for data covering the past 80 million years using the time scale of Harland et al. (1982). The spectral characteristics of the inversion regime and the problem of asymmetry in the positive and negative polarity distribution are discussed.
