From a comparison of the photospheric bolometric flux of B emission stars with the bolometric flux (found from TD-1 UV data) of the entire star-envelope system it is suggested that these stars may have disklike circumstellar envelopes. Given the classically assumed asymmetric nature of the circumstellar envelopes of these stars, the bolometric luminosity of the star-envelope system is determined as a function of the angle of luminosity. The photospheric bolometric flux is found using the lambda1 and D parameters of the Balmer discontinuity of the central star. The loss in luminosity observed for the 'strong' B emission stars is consistent with the model of disklike circumstellar envelopes. Possible explanations for the similarity in behavior between the 'strong' Be stars with and without shells are discussed.
