It is suggested that the matter emitting the shifted lines in SS433 is accelerated to its terminal velocity by radiation pressure due to photon absorption below the Lyman edge by L-alpha transitions. A mechanism that may explain the confinement of the region from which moving features are emitted to very narrow conical sections is also considered. Possible effects of a magnetic field on the observed line positions are examined, and it is concluded that a static dipolar atmosphere is the source of the unshifted emission lines.
