In previous work we established a correspondence between poleward moving auroral forms and stepped cusp ion precitation, thereby supporting the interpretation of each in terms of pulsed reconnection at the magnetopause. That work was based on observations during a satellite-ground magnetic conjunction. In the present work we relate the same two features but observed this time at sites well separated in local time. The auroral data were recorded by a meridian scanning photometer in Ny Ålesund, Svalbard, and the particle and field data are from Polar, which traversed the cusp/low latitude boundary layer from north to south along the 0900 magnetic meridian. The ground instruments recorded two in a long sequence of brightenings/poleward moving forms. Simultaneously, from an altitude of ~3 Re and a separation of 3 hours in local time, Polar observed two pulsed particle precipitation signatures corresponding to these. These observations imply that in this case the cusp/LLBL injection events spanned a broad local time sector. Further, evidence is shown that this wide cusp persisted for at least 3 hours for a By > 0-dominated IMF. Localized current sheets are observed and described in relation to the precipitation.
