The possible existence of additional global quantities which could constrain the process of violent relaxation and lead to the (meta-)stable state which is usually referred to as the product of incomplete violent relaxation is considered. Under the assumption that only one additional conserved quantity is relevant, an expression for the distribution function is obtained which maximizes the classical Boltzman entropy. Alternately, by using a partition in phase space which does not assign equal weights to the microstates, it is demonstrated that distrbution functions capable of representing the luminosity profiles of ellipticals can be derived by imposing the conservation of the angular momentum of stars lying at large radii.
