We show that unlike global monopoles minimally coupled to gravity,
global monopoles with a non-minimal coupling can give rise to spacetimes
where bound orbits for test particles exist. This fact combined with
some other features can make them as likely candidates for an attempt to
solve the dark matter problem in spiral galaxies. .
