Observing time is requested to obtain low- and high-resolution spectra of 15 newly-discovered subluminous O stars. These stars occupy a previously empty region of the H-R diagram bounded by the central stars of planetary nebulae, the hottest white dwarfs, and previously known sdO's, and evidence has been found that the abundances of H, He, C, N, and Fe vary widely from star to star. We believe that detailed spectroscopic studies of these stars, both in the UV and in the visible, will be crucial to our understanding of stellar evolution immediately preceding the white dwarf state.
