Published data on acoustic gravity waves in the upper atmosphere are
reviewed. It is concluded that all forms of spread F and ionospheric
scintillation are probably traceable to TIDs which, in turn, are excited
by a spectrum of geophysical noise consisting of acoustic gravity waves.
