The coherent-pulse Doppler radar system recently installed at Kyoto University is briefly described, and some initial results obtained with the system are discussed. It is shown that the solar semidiurnal tide generally predominates over wind oscillations in the meteor region, while the diurnal tide of comparable magnitude reveals itself in a less regular manner. Some anomalies in the amplitude and phase characteristics of tides which may be related to disturbed conditions in the atmosphere are shown.
