On the 10th and 12th of March 1986, Japan's interplanetary spacecraft, Sakigake traversed the front of comet Halley. Small fluctuation of solar wind velocity due to H2O+ ions was first detected at the closest approach. However maximum fluctuation was detected between 22h30m and 24h00m on the 11th of March. The time corrresponds to the closest approach to the trajectory of comet Halley along which the comet went through. This might suggest that H2O+ still remains along the pass of comet Halley.
