Cassegrain spectra of the "Horsehead Jet" have been obtained in order to study its emission line spectrum. The authors have found no evidence for shock excitation of the "jet". The emission line ratios in the "jet" and in the adjacent H II region IC 434 are identical as well as the radial velocities. It is concluded that the Horsehead Jaw is part of IC 434 and not a shock excited collimated flow.
