It is shown that the ultimate energy of cosmic rays accelerated in a supernova shell due to the surfing acceleration mechanism is determined by the shell radius and the interstellar magnetic field. The ultimate energy of cosmic rays accelerated in the supernova shock does not exceed 1017 eV for typical values of the interstellar magnetic field in the vicinity of a supernova and the radii of observed supernova shells.
