A mode method is proposed for the calculation of the vertical electric dipole field in the earth-ionosphere waveguide. Pulses of atmospherics (electromagnetic radiation from lightning discharges) are analyzed for the near field (D equals 100-500 km) without significant restrictions on the frequency spread in the low frequency range. The aim of the investigation is to estimate the number of modes that substantially influence the amplitude of the atmospheric in relation to the distance and band of filtration.
