There has recently been much experimental evidence for the existence of nonlinear effects during the propagation of natural and artificial signals in the magnetosphere, emphasizing the interaction of waves with the resonance particles of the collisionless cosmic plasma. The amplitude evolution of low frequency waves in the process of decay interaction is studied. Analytic results are presented for the amplitude modulation of strong whistlers propagating in the magnetosphere, with a weak background of electrostatic waves.
