Accurate photometry in the Geneva system has been obtained for most stars brighter than mv = 11.0 listed in the Gliese and Woolley catalogues. Photometric parallaxes, effective temperatures and, for F2 to K5 stars, metal abundances are derived. The stellar content of the solar neighborhood and the main features of the HR diagram are discussed.
