We propose a 200 ks observation of the Seyfert 1 galaxy Mrk 509 with XMM to probe the dynamics of the accretion and ejection of material onto its BH. Mrk 509 is the best target for these studies because i) it is unique in showing two narrow absorption lines at ~5.4 keV and ~8.2 keV, and ii) it is bright enough (F(2-10)~2-5x10e-11 erg /cm2/s) to allow time-resolved spectral studies necessary to follow the time evolution of these transient (timescale ~20 ks) features. One exciting possibility for the origin of these lines is that we are probing highly ionized Iron in absorbing clouds with inward and outward velocities of ~0.2c. Our goal is to characterise the geometry, kinematics (velocities) and, most importantly, dynamics (velocities variations) of the absorbing material.
