The spectrophotometric experiment of the Venera-13, 14 descent modules involved the determination of the angular distribution and spectral structure of scattered solar radiation in the Venusian atmosphere. IOAV-2 spectrophotometers were used to measure the radiation spectrum in the 0.47-1.2 micron range and in the 0.32-0.39 micron range in six directions lying near the vertical plane. The basic objectives of the experiment were to determine the vertical distribution of water-vapor content as well as the vertical distribution of aerosol concentration and subcloud-haze characteristics, and to investigate the propagation of UV radiation in the cloud layer. The design of the spectrophotometer is described in detail, and a preliminary analysis of the measurement results is presented.
