The paper considers observations of the Millstone Hill radar upgraded for the magnetosphere study with an additional 150-ft diameter steerable antenna. The electric field was measured in the auroral zone over 15 deg of invariant latitude; to obtain estimates of the E-W and the N-S components of the drifts, the measurements are made in two directions separated by + or - 15 deg from the magnetic meridian, and to achieve the desired latitude coverage, measurements must be made at two elevation angles for each of these azimuths. The results obtained represent the variation of the auroral electric fields over 24 hr local time smoothed with respect to latitude and time.
